According to reports from Chinese media outlets such as Huanqiu.com, Suzhou No. 5 Middle School issued an obituary on September 7 announcing the passing of Qian Xing—a retired staff member and mathematics teacher—who died of illness in the early hours of September 6 at the age of 94. Qian Xing was the second son of the renowned scholar of Chinese studies, Qian Mu.
After the outcome of the Chinese Civil War became increasingly clear in 1949, Qian Mu traveled south from Guangzhou to Hong Kong that October with the private Overseas Chinese University; there, he assumed the presidency of the “Asia College of Arts and Commerce,” the institution that would later become New Asia College. In September 1967, Qian Mu moved from Hong Kong to Taiwan, and the following year, he settled at “Sushu Lou” (Plain Book House) in the Waishuangxi area of Taipei.
