An EU Commission document seen by Reuters reveals that the European Union plans to propose restrictions on the use of social media, video-sharing platforms, AI chatbots, and online games by minors under the age of 15. This initiative represents the most comprehensive plan to date aimed at protecting children from online harms.
The proposal is part of the “EU Child Rights Act,” which European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and EU Commissioner for Technology Henna Virkkunen are scheduled to formally present on Thursday. Von der Leyen may announce some details of the policy during her State of the Union address on Wednesday.
